SunPy is a community-developed free and open-source software package for solar physics. It aims to provide a comprehensive data analysis environment that allows researchers within the field of solar physics to carry out their tasks with the minimal effort. SunPy provides powerful data types that correspond to the various types of solar observations, facilitating data handling, manipulation, and data comparison.
SunPy has been used in projects at a variety of research institutions, including NASA, Stanford, U. C. Berkeley, U. of Sheffield UK, Lockheed, National Solar Observatory/Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, Caltech/NuStar, ADNET Systems, Inc., University of Helsinki, University of Campinas, University of St. Andrews, University College London, Trinity College Dublin, George Mason University, and University of Washington. SunPy is used by the ESA and NASA funded solar data visualization Helioviewer Project.
