NumFOCUS is excited to once again participate as an umbrella organization for Google Summer of Code 2017 — our third time participating in the program!
Google Summer of Code sponsors students to work full-time for 3 months on open source projects during the summer (in the northern hemisphere), supervised by a senior contributor from the mentoring organization. So far the following organizations are participating with us and have listed project ideas:
- FEniCS
- gensim
- nteract
- matplotlib
- MDAnalysis
- PyMC3
- Stan
- Data Retriever (friend of NumFOCUS but not an affiliated or sponsored project)
Students who want to participate in the program should introduce themselves to the organization they want to work with and write a project proposal describing the work they’d like to achieve by the end of the summer. For project proposal ideas, please see our ideas page. After the application deadline, mentoring organizations select from among the student applicants and assign them to each position made available through Google.
Last year, NumFOCUS had seven successful GSoC students! We hope to have even more students participate this year. If you or someone you know would be interested in participating in the Google Summer of Code program with a NumFOCUS project, please let us know.
Have at look our student instructions before applying. If you have questions, please reach out to us at .
Some of our sponsored projects are also participating in GSoC separately or under other partner organizations. Please see the links below for further information:
