About NumFOCUS Preferred Solution Providers

Preferred Solution Providers are organizations whose values are well aligned with those of NumFOCUS and with whom an agreement of reciprocity has been signed. When NumFOCUS is approached to provide a service, especially one we do not provide ourselves, we generally make a referral to our preferred providers.

The Preferred Solution Providers program is designed to provide benefit to NumFOCUS projects and programs, to preferred providers, and to companies looking for reliable and qualified service providers. In exchange for a referral, the preferred provider pays NumFOCUS a small fee. Companies benefit by getting their needs met, preferred providers benefit by signing new clients, and NumFOCUS benefits by bringing in funds for our projects and programs by means of the referral.

In order to qualify as a preferred provider, the provider should be aligned with the mission and vision of NumFOCUS. They should:

  • uphold high ethical standards in alignment with the values of NumFOCUS,
  • support NumFOCUS projects and initiatives, and
  • actively participate in the community.

Preferred Provider Guidelines

This document serves to provide general guidelines for the qualification and selection of NumFOCUS Preferred Providers. The Preferred Provider Agreement can be viewed here.

 

Definition & Motivation

When NumFOCUS is approached to provide a service, especially one we do not provide ourselves, we may recommend that an outside company is used. This recommendation will typically be made from our list of preferred providers, organizations whose values are well aligned with those of NumFOCUS and with whom an agreement of reciprocity has been signed. The agreement states that the service provider will pay NumFOCUS 10% of the gross amount paid to the customer/client/service provider during the first year of Company’s contract with the customer/client/service provider as a referral fee to NumFOCUS. They will also be allowed to promote their affiliation with NumFOCUS as a provider.

 

Referrals

The agreement NumFOCUS signs does not guarantee referrals. Referrals, rather, will stem from the mutual benefits that result from the agreement.

 

Qualifications

In order to qualify as a preferred provider, the provider should be aligned with the mission and vision of NumFOCUS. They should:

  • support NumFOCUS projects and initiatives, and
  • actively participate in the community.

 

Selection

Companies interested in becoming a NumFOCUS Preferred Provider may contact us at . A NumFOCUS board member may also recommend potential preferred providers.

Board approval by a simple majority is required before any company may be added to the list of NumFOCUS preferred providers.
An agreement may be terminated in accordance with the terms of the agreement should a majority of the board vote to do so.
