“Better tools to build a better world.”

This condensed version of our vision statement encapsulates the role we consider NumFOCUS to play in scientific innovation and discovery. For the past seven years, NumFOCUS has provided invaluable support to the open source data science projects whose tools underlie countless technology products, academic research projects, government services, and non-profit initiatives. The open source software developed and maintained by NumFOCUS-supported projects has become more and more foundational to our digital modern world.

In working to provide our projects with world-class financial, administrative, and strategic support, NumFOCUS depends on a number of stakeholders within the open source scientific community. Private foundations fund our work because they recognize the essential functions our data science tools play in so many of the initiatives they support. Increasingly, individuals who already rely on NumFOCUS tools have also taken notice of the momentum behind our community-building programs and are donating at higher levels. And our corporate sponsors have played a leading role year after year in helping us to achieve measurable results.

Our 2019 Corporate Sponsorship Prospectus

It is with this sense of gratitude that I am pleased to announce the newest iteration of our Corporate Sponsorship Prospectus. This document details the several types of support that NumFOCUS provides to our Sponsored and Affiliated Projects. It also describes the sense of community we work to cultivate between our projects as well as among users and beneficiaries of our data science tools. Most importantly, the Prospectus states our case for support from prospective corporate sponsors and outlines the benefits that a partnership with NumFOCUS entails. With five different tiers of support, our corporate sponsorship program offers entry points for companies of any size and scope.

Think of our Corporate Sponsorship Prospectus as a tool in itself. With it, you’re prepared for a conversation with a company about how crucial it is to support open source data science and about how doing so through NumFOCUS results in multiple and significant returns on investment. Companies enjoy numerous perks for their sponsorship of our organization, including recruiting, marketing, and branding opportunities as well as the ability to build relationships with NumFOCUS project leaders. In turn, the buy-in from these corporate stakeholders strengthens our community.

Our ability to serve our projects depends on the continued generosity of all NumFOCUS supporters, especially our corporate sponsors. If you’ve thought about approaching your company about contributing to NumFOCUS, I invite you to contact me to discuss the best strategy for doing so, including how to most effectively use our newest Prospectus. Together, we can build a stronger open source community and, in turn, help to build a better world.
